Wiley Reed Blues Musician dead at 68.
Born in Florida, Reed settled in Brisbane in the late 1960s after touring Vietnam to entertain troops. He became a regular at Queensland venues and at festivals such as Blues on Broadbeach.
Reed’s 2003 album Straight From the Heart won him three Queensland Recording Industry Association Awards, including best male vocalist.
Jazz Queensland president Lynette Irwin said yesterday: “Wiley was a passionate and dedicated artist who lived to play and share his musical magic. He touched our hearts with his rich, powerful voice, great humour and generous nature.”
Reed is survived by wife Sofia and daughters Jasmine, Syreeta and Myriah.
Benefit concerts are being arranged to celebrate his life.
